This used to be on my Jeep;
2009-01-28-1
and now it is on my table....
So this is what happened. I was going over to the main plant for the Annex Building, kinda of a satellite branch for CAT Sanford, and as I was pulling down the road to the main building and coming up to the gate, some really dangerous mirror trolls jumped out of the woods, ripped my mirror off with the intent to steal it. I screamed at them,"STOP! This is barely a year old Jeep and those mirrors are expensive!" Needless to say I scared them off before they took the mirror.... Ok not really....there is a chain link fence about 10' high and it has a swinging gate. It swings like a double door. There is also a lift gate that you have to badge in, this works like a railroad crossing. The chain link fence is normally secured, but today,(dramatic pause) it was not. As I was coming down the road and rolling my window down to badge in, the chain link gate must have been caught by the wind cause as I was going forward, it was swinging out towards the roads and it sheared off my mirror. It was pretty loud and I did not know what happened. My team leader was with me and said some things I will not repeat on this blog. We stopped, got out and looked at my poor mirror in pieces on the road. He secured the gate and we headed inside. I went to security to tell them what happened. They were very apologetic, and want to take some pictures and fill out and incident report. They said they would get back to me once they decide what to do. I am not really expecting anything, but I can hope.

Anyways that was my exciting story for the day, and my attempt to make it a little more funny then it really was :)

From your brother-in-law who has been through a police academy...they might be liable. Not exactly sure from your story, but there's a chance they need to pay for repair since their property caused damage to yours. A key question will be whether you could have prevented it or if they should have prevented it.

EEK! Sorry about that. To make you feel better I actually tore off our side view mirror by backing into the garage. It was a lovely sound and feel. At least yours wasn't really your fault!! Hope they fix it... we can hope. :)

WOW! A story so great it elicited a response from the Isle of E!!! If worst comes to worst, I got Pop a great mirror on eBay! :)

Gee Case, what a mess. I agree with brother-in-law, the company should absorb some, if not all cost of repairs. My clinic had a similar issue a few years ago and we took care of both staff and clients.

WOW....well that's freaky! I hate to admit it, but you had me buying the 'troll' story. I was thinking--" wow there are actually people out there who would stoop so low as to rip it right off your car while you're driving?"....not my brightest moment....

At least he didn't blame it on me, saying we were texting each other at the time. :-)

You might be pleasantly surprised. The school district paid for my shattereed mirror - I hit a pole in the school parking lot. We had assigned spots and my spot had not been cleared of snow. In negotiating the space that was avaiable my mirror hit a pole - it was frigid cold and my mirror shattered. Someone told me to submit the repair bill; I did and the district paid!
